What's The Buzz?!

Here Comes The Harvest (Again): Once again, let us help one another with that old gardener's dilemma "what to do with too much harvest!  As the zucchini, cukes and tomatoes come pouring in, we realize that God may have blessed us a little too abundantly.  We don't want to let the good food go to waste, but often we can find no one to give it to who really wants it.  We know there are people out there without gardens who would love some fresh produce, but how can we connect with them?

Therefore, we will place a table in the vestibule once more.  If you have extra produce, put it in these baskets on Saturday.  (Please, nothing overripe or unpalatable)  Then if anyone would like a few tomatoes, or onions, or whatever, they can take a little home with them.  All food will be removed after the last mass on Sunday.  Already someone has led the way by bringing in produce on their own last weekend.  Now is the time for us all to join in and rejoice in the fruits of the land together.

THE ARCHIVIST by Fr. David Prenatt: Stop by the rectory and purchase your copy of the newly released novel by our very own pastor, Fr. David.  Three dollars from the sale of each book will go to St. Gregory Youth Outreach Activities.  Also, mark your calendars and join Fr. David on Tuesday, September 15, at 7:00 PM in the school gym for a special reception and book signing.

Altar Server Summer Picnic: Letters have been sent home to all Altar Servers, Schola members, and Higher Choir members asking them to reserve Tuesday, August 25 for the annual picnic at Waldameer Park.  Please call the rectory office at 725-9691 as soon as possible to let us know if you are able to attend, so we can purchase the tickets at the discount price.

Knights of Columbus Sports Raffle is scheduled for Friday, November 20, from 6:00-10:30 PM at a new location,  the Bayfront Convention Center.  Tickets are $15.00 each, or 2 for $25.00 and can be purchased from any Knight, or at the Rectory Office.  Purchase your ticket before October 21st, and be eligible for the early bird  $250.00 cash drawing.

Football Lottery: We are kicking off the 2009 Football Lottery and we need your help!  This is a vital fund raiser for the school and parish support is greatly appreciated and needed to ensure its success.  We are looking to re-energize this high potential, easy-money fundraiser this year.  Tickets are $5.00 and are good for the entire NFL season.   Tickets can also be purchased at the school or rectory office during business hours.

Cemetery News: Saint Gregory Cemetery has planted  "memorial" trees in Sections 5, and  10.   Currently there are 5 trees left for purchase in Section 5 and 3 trees left in Section 10.  If you are interested in purchasing one in memory of a loved one, please stop in the rectory office Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM-3:00 PM or Friday, 9:00 AM-Noon.  The cost for a tree is $160.00.   Trees must be paid for in full at the time of the request.

Also Note: NO artificial decorations or objects are permitted throughout the cemetery.  Also, in Sections 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10, please keep the flowers to the FRONT only of the grave marker.

NO plantings of any kind are permitted in Section 4 (flush marker section).  Plants will be removed by the workers.

In fairness to all, regulations are necessary if we are to keep the grounds safe and beautiful.  Our staff has been working very hard and doing their best...please give them your help and cooperation.

Saint Gregory School: Registration for the 2009/2010 Saint Gregory School year has begun.  Interested families are encouraged to contact the school office at 725-4571.

SCRIP CARDS: Don't forget to get your SCRIP Cards for your weekly grocery and gas purchases.  Some Cash and Carry cards are available for purchase in the vestibule of the church, after the weekend Masses and others can be ordered at the school.  Help support this important fundraiser!

Marian Shrine Walkway: Memorials are still being sold for the Marian Shrine Walkway project at the school.  Stones are $100.00 and are a beautiful way to honor a loved one’s memory.  They are available in Gray or Rose color.  Call the school at 725-4571.
