The Wonder Workers would like to plan new projects for the coming year.  They are: Bereavement Ministry with funeral meal and follow-up; healing/friendship to shut-ins; welcoming of new parishioners; adult education and more.  If you are interested in helping with any of these projects, call the rectory office.


Notes from the Ladies Auxiliary re-organization meeting

Recently there has been a decline in St. Gregory Parish Ladies Auxiliary membership.  Many reasons were identified and it was agreed the previous model is not working.

 

Father David outlined a new ministry based organization dedicated to Christ, the center of our life.  The renewed organization would be a vehicle for all women to share their gifts and talents by prioritizing parish projects and would provide services to fulfill the parish needs.  This would attract and renew membership. 

 

This ministry based organization would not depend on officers (a president, vice president) to get projects done.  Rather a board of facilitators or moderators was suggested to organize the different project leaders.  The organization meets to prioritize tasks that need to be accomplished.  The organization is based not on who is in charge, but upon tasks that can be accomplished.

 

  • Persons who feel called and/or competent to spearhead a particular task would volunteer to be chairperson, would be responsible for all aspects of the project including planning, materials, personnel, etc. 

 

  • Help from the whole parish may be solicited for projects.

 

  • There may be three or four projects going on at the same time, all with different “chair-persons”.

 

  • New membership will be attracted by appealing to ladies’ talents, what talent they want to provide for the parish project they would like to see. 

 

  • All new ideas are welcome and considered.  Each idea can come to fruition if there are those willing to see them through and carry them out.

 

BENEFITS:

  • No one person or group is “in charge”.

 

  • New members can be involved immediately and take leadership role in areas that interest them.

 

  • Whole parish involvement is possible through particular events and/or tasks.

 

  • The organization is ministry based and focuses on service to the parish as a whole.

 

  • We are called from God to use our talents.

 

  • A variety of gifts and talents will emerge.

 

It was the consensus of the group attending that we should adopt this model, not to erase the previous history of the Ladies Auxiliary, but to build on what has already been accomplished.  The next meeting will be held May 10 at 7:00 pm in the rectory meeting room.  One project for this meeting will be to formulate a committee to propose a name for the organization.
